How does Family Law Mediation work?
We discuss each of these issues. Each person shares their thoughts and explains why they want what they want.
Usually, we meet in the same room. This encourages the couple to talk with each other.
If an agreement is reached, I draft an agreement that can form the basis of the legal document that will be filed with the court. The agreement that I draft is not the final legal agreement.
When I mediate without attorneys, each mediation session lasts two hours. Most couples will need four sessions. If family lawyers or divorce lawyers are involved, the lawyers often prefer to mediate one time for a full day.
